Link a WhatsApp Business Number
Linking a business number is what unlocks the full WhatsApp stack — Inbox replies, template campaigns, workflow automation, and AI agents — all sending from a number your customers recognise. This page covers the standard guided flow, where you log in with Meta and pick your number; if your team manages its own Meta App and wants a token that never expires, use direct linking with a system user instead.

Who Can Do This
Account admins only. WhatsApp connections affect inbound lead flow and message delivery for the entire account. Sales users and agents can send and reply once the number is connected and their role permits it.
Before You Start
- A WhatsApp Business number — either already registered in Meta Business Manager, or a fresh number you're ready to register during the flow. The number can't be in active use on the regular WhatsApp app.
- Access to the Meta Business account that owns (or will own) the number, with admin rights.
- A payment method or line of credit on the WhatsApp Business Account — without one, Meta may not list the number as available. (This is the single most common linking surprise; see troubleshooting.)
Link the Number
- Go to Automation → Integrations, open the Social Media tab, and select WhatsApp.
- Click + Connect number.
- Choose the guided Login with Meta option. A Meta window opens.
- Sign in and grant Brixi access to your business portfolio when prompted.
- Select the Business Account and the WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) that owns your number.
- Pick the phone number to link — or register a new one and verify it by SMS or voice call.
- Confirm. Meta hands the connection back to Brixi, which finishes the webhook setup automatically.
After linking, the number appears as a card on the WhatsApp Integrations page with a Verified badge, message statistics, attached AI agents, and your approved message templates.
Give the connection a recognisable account name if you plan to link more than one number — "Sales Team – Mumbai" beats "WhatsApp 2" when you're picking a sender for a campaign later.
After Linking
- Templates — campaigns and out-of-window messages need Meta-approved templates. Manage them in the Content Library.
- Lead generation — decide whether inbound messages from unknown numbers should auto-create leads; the toggle lives on the number's settings.
- AI agent — attach one to auto-handle first responses; see Assign an AI Agent to a Number.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Your number isn't listed in Meta's picker | Usually billing: the WABA has no payment method or line of credit. Full checklist in WhatsApp Troubleshooting. |
| Meta login window closes without finishing | Pop-up blockers, or you're signed in to a personal Meta account that has no role on the business. Sign in with the business admin account. |
| Number registers but verification SMS never arrives | The number may still be active on the regular WhatsApp app — delete that account first, then retry. |
| Card shows but no Verified badge | The webhook handshake didn't complete — reopen the number settings and re-run verification, or see the full connect guide. |
